Creating an SEO Friendly Website: 5 Top Tips

seo friendly website

These days, you can’t ignore the need for search engine optimisation (SEO) – not when so many businesses know how to optimise their website for search engines. Good-practice SEO means that your website will rank higher in the search engine result pages (SERPs), driving increased traffic to your website. That is essential if you want to build your reputation, attract customers, and improve your credibility. To make sure your website stands out in the sea of SERPs, use these five top tips to ensure it’s SEO friendly.

1. Choose the right website host

First, you need to choose a good host. An SEO friendly website site will prioritise quick loading times, as Google and other search engines reward high-speed websites.

The type of provider you choose will, of course, depend on the kind of website you run, as some providers work better for particular sites. A blog may not need the same bandwidth as a large eCommerce site, for example. If you wish to set up an agency website with WordPress, you should search for a provider that allows multiple site management. For a website that sometimes has high amounts of traffic and sometimes very little, a cloud server comes in handy, as they allow scaling up and down.

2. Include internal and external links

The use of internal and external links will help rank your website higher on search engines. Internal links also help guide your readers to other useful parts of your website. External links give your site more credibility, making it a source of authority.

You want to avoid flooding your pages with links, however. Use them properly and sparingly, ensuring readers are directed to relevant pages depending on what they are reading. A couple of authority links are far better than multiple weak, irrelevant ones.

3. Use the right keywords

Keywords and SEO go hand in hand. You should not fill your website content with sort-of relevant keywords, though. Perform keyword research and use ones targeted at your particular audience to help with writing SEO friendly content. Then, when your targeted market searches a similar keyword on a search engine, your website is more likely to rank higher for them.

4. Post engaging and unique content

When it comes to SEO practices, the saying is true – content is king. With enough unique content, search engines can index your pages properly, helping your website rank higher. The better the content, the higher you will rank, so focus on making your blog content as engaging as possible. For example, using titles and subtitles makes it easy for readers to go from the beginning to the end of a post.

Recent SEO Posts

Fresh, SEO friendly, content matters, too. Don’t rely on your old posts to draw in new clicks, as this won’t work. If you want some tips on posting effective content, you will find plenty of useful articles online.

5. Optimise your site for mobile users

Search engines prioritise websites that run well on mobile, as they want all of their users to have the best experience, whether they are on their phones or laptops. Due to this, you must make sure your site is optimised for mobile users and that you have other technical SEO elements locked down. Some simple ways to do this include:

  • Improving Loading Times
  • Reducing Image Size
  • Getting Rid of Pop-Ups

  1. Thank you for the article! I just have one question regarding SEO-friendliness. The thing is that all the guidelines say that pop-ups severely affect SEO rankings. But some websites with good domain ratings still use it a lot! And I find them on top of the search results! Why does it happen?

    1. Used correctly, pop-ups are unlikely to cause an issue. Sites with a good domain authority can usually get away with adding pop-ups. Of course, another key factor to consider is user experience – you don’t want to negatively impact how a visitor navigates your website.

  2. Page speed and user experience in general are the most important ranking factors at the moment. You have to do SEO right or forget about doing it at all.
Make sure that you are getting some first time visitors’ opinion on the site before launching.
