How to Add a Site to Google Analytics: T-Time with Tillison

Add Google Analytics to website

The benefits that using Google Analytics can have for an online business’ website are countless. The data the platform collects can help with marketing, remarketing, content creation and so much more. In this T-Time video, Mark takes us back to basics to discuss:

How do I get Google Analytics code?

(00:24) On the Google Analytics home screen, head to Admin and then click on ‘Create property’. Fill out the form with the details of your site and click ‘Create’ – this should then take you to the page with your Google Analytics tag. All you have to do is copy the code and add it to your website.

There are a few ways to add the tag to your site. Arguably the easiest is to put it in your HTML Header so that it appears on every page, but you can also use Google Tag Manager, which is much easier.

How do I add multiple websites to Google Analytics?

(03:07) The answer to this is very straightforward: just keep creating additional properties. You can add a total of 50 properties to your Google Analytics account, but you can have multiple accounts, making that number pretty much unlimited.

Can you have two Google Analytics codes on one website?

(03:45) You can, but the circumstances in which this would be necessary are very rare. Be careful if you are adding two tags, though – the more requests you’re adding to the page, the slower your page load time could become, which can harm conversion rates.

Can Google Analytics track password-protected sites?

(04:26) Yes – as long as you have the tag on a web page, Analytics will track it. It doesn’t matter if you have a membership site or forum, the script will fire as soon as the page loads.
