Bing Ads URL Auto-Tagging Has Finally Arrived

Bing has finally listened to many Pay Per Click manager’s requests and have added in the feature which will allow you to auto tag your destination URLs within your account.

Before this you would have to manually add your UTM tags to your destination URLs or use a third party application each time that you created an ad in order to report. PPC Managers want to be able to have access to all of their different campaign data all in one place (Google Analytics). To be able to report on your Bing Ads campaign whilst you’re in Analytics, you have to add a tag on each ad. This can be a very time consuming task, especially if you have to deal with large accounts.

The New Bing Ads URL Auto-Tagging Feature

The new Bing Ads URL Auto-Tagging Feature gives you two options when setting it up:

Replace all existing tags – Bing Ads will overwrite any existing tags that you have manually added and add tags to any which are missing. This will eliminate any errors that may happen if you were to just manually add them.

Keep my existing tags and add any that are missing – If you have already manually added tags to your ads which you are reporting on and you want to add to any which are missing them, then this is the option to choose. This will help you save time when creating new ads or when you’re just checking that they all have them.

How to Set Up Bing Ads Auto-Tagging

Go to your ‘Accounts & Billing’ tab and press ‘Edit’ which is located next to your account details. It will load up a yellow box in which it gives you the option to ‘Add UTM tags to my ads’ destination URLs’. Select either of the two options and you’re good to go.

Overall this is a big step forward. It’s going to save a lot of time and reduce the risk of errors. Hopefully this is a sign that there will be lots of new features coming to Bing Ads in the near future.
