Have you been Hit by Google’s Mobile Friendly Update?

On 21st April Google implemented their mobile friendly update. Have you come out of this algorithm change unscathed or has your website sunk into the depths of Mobilegeddon?

We have been recommending to our clients that they use the Google mobile friendly test site to check their website.  Running this test will tell you whether Google thinks your site is suitable for mobile devices or not.

How do you know if a site is mobile friendly?

Google will now show a tag in both organic and paid search results on mobiles saying  “mobile friendly” IF they deem it to be suitable for mobile use. You can see an example of this in the image below.

Having run the test on our client’s sites, a surprising 54% have failed.

Reasons for mobile friendly failure

The most common reasons sites fail the test are:

  • Text too small
  • Mobile Viewport not set
  • Links too close together
  • Content wider than screen

There’s only one thing to do – CHECK YOUR SITE NOW!
