Google has now updated activity cards for jobs, recipes and products, three areas that the search engine giant describes as “especially important today”. All three have a similar design that’s capable of displaying rich media like thumbnails as well as more detailed information.
What does this mean for users?
Research is an important part of any purchasing decision. Google now shows products that you’ve been researching, even if they were only featured in an article. “This makes it easy to see and compare all the products you’re interested in so you can come to a decision faster,” InHan Kang, Product Manager of Search, writes on the Google blog.
We all know how time-consuming looking for new employment opportunities is. The number of applications job seekers make often means they forget which positions they’ve already seen. The new job activity card displays new, relevant postings that have been made since your last search, making finding a new role significantly easier.
Let’s imagine you cook a lot of chicken dishes, but you’ve got a few firm favourites that you look for on Google. With the updated recipe cards, searching for ‘chicken recipes’ will now display the recipes you’ve recently visited along with some related ones. The best part is each one has a handy thumbnail so you can be sure you’re picking the one you want.
